To: Applicants for FIRST (R29) and CAREER Development (K) Awards

Reminder: NEW APPLICATION PROCEDURES REQUIRED

Beginning with the JUNE 1, 1996 receipt date, unsolicited applications for FIRST (R29) and CAREER (K) awards must be prepared according to the requirements of Just-In-Time (J-I-T) procedures, as announced in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts, Volume 25, Number 10, March 29, 1996. There may be a significant delay in the processing and review of any application that has not been prepared according to the instructions in the notice cited above.

The sponsor and cosponsor of a mentored career award application (K01, K08) will still need to provide information about any research support related to the candidate's research proposal. For the June 1 receipt date, an application for a K01 or K08 award prepared according to the instructions in the application kit or according to the J-I-T instructions will be accepted for review. Additional information has been published in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts, Volume 25, Number 16, May 17, 1996.
