Award

Scope Note

When NIH awards a grant, we are formalizing our partnership with the recipient to ensure compliance with federal laws, regulations and policies. This protects the integrity of the overall scientific endeavor. Learn more about what happens between peer review through award for applicants whose applications have been deemed highly meritorious in the scientific peer review process.

Funding Decisions

In order to understand the chances of your application being funded, it is helpful to understand the relationship between the impact score of the application, its percentile ranking, the concept of a payline, and the process by which funding decisions are made.

Just-in-Time (JIT) Information

If within a fundable range, although not an indicator of an award decision, the NIH Institute or Center may reach out with a request to include Just-in-Time information.

Notice of Award (NoA)

The Notice of Award (NoA) is the official grant award document notifying the recipient and others that an award has been made.

Accepting the Award

Recipients accept an NIH award by drawing down or requesting funds. (Congratulations!)
