Steps for PI to Track Submission Status

You, the PI, can check the status of your application in eRA Commons as long as the PD/PI information provided in the SF 424 (R&R) Senior/Key Information form of your application included the PD/PI role and your eRA Commons username in the credential field.

Steps:

  1. Login to eRA Commons Link to Non-U.S. Government Site - Click for Disclaimer with your Principal Investigator (PI) account username and password.

  2. Click the Status tab and select Recent/Pending eSubmissions or type in your Grants.gov tracking number (e.g., GRANT12345678).

  3. Check the eSubmission Status column to determine if your application status is “eSubmission Error” or “Pending Verification”.

  4. If “eSubmission Error”, follow the link to “Show Prior Errors and Warnings” to see specific error/warning messages.
    • View the list of eSubmission errors/warnings.
    • You do not need to address all warnings for your application to move forward. However, warnings may alert you to potential issues and should not simply be ignored.
    • You must address all errors and Submit a Changed/Corrected Application to complete the submission process.
  5. If "Pending Verification", click on the accession number (e.g., AN1234567) in the Application ID column to view the detailed status screen.
    • Click on the e-Application link in the Other Related Documents section of the screen to view your assembled application image. This is the same document that will be seen by reviewers and staff so check it carefully.
    • If anything looks amiss, your organization's signing official (SO) has the ability to reject the application. If your application is "rejected" you will be notified via email. Any corrective submission must be made by 5 p.m. local time on the due date, or your application will be subject to our late policy. If no action is taken, the application automatically moves forward.
