The K01 award in Population Research is intended to provide mentored training experiences for:
The K01 program in Population Research generally is limited to individuals at the Assistant Professor
level. However, recent Associate Professors in the latter two categories are also eligible, as

NIDCR Specific Information: NIDCR uses the Parent K01 to support re-entry of individuals into the dental, oral and craniofacial research workforce whose active careers have been interrupted by family responsibilities or other qualifying circumstances. Eligibility Circumstances: Candidates must have been actively involved in dental, oral or craniofacial research at the time of career interruption. The duration of the career interruption should be at least one year and no more than eight years. Examples of qualifying interruptions include a complete or partial hiatus from research activities for child rearing; an incapacitating illness or injury of the candidate, spouse, partner, or a member of the immediate family; military service; relocation to accommodate a spouse, partner, or other close family member; and pursuit of non-research endeavors that would permit earlier repayment of debt incurred in obtaining a doctoral degree. The candidate should be within two years of a complete or partial hiatus from research activities at the time of application. For Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01 - Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed), please refer to NIDCR Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Applications of Data Science in Translational Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research NOT-DE-23-002 calling for a variety of data science-oriented projects focused on developing and using data and data science resources, methods, and tools for dental, oral, and craniofacial (DOC) research. Individuals who do not have an independent research plan to propose for this K01 re-entry program should consider the NIH Research Supplements to Promote Re-Entry, Reintegration into, and Retraining in Health-Related Research Careers (NOT-OD-23-170). Candidates supported by NIDCR Research Supplements to Promote Re-Entry into Biomedical and Behavioral Research Careers remain eligible for this K01 re-entry program. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact NIDCR to determine eligibility for the NIDCR K01 re-entry award. Salary Support: Up to $100,000 plus fringe benefits per year. (NIEHS) Grants Management Contact
|
NIEHS Specific Information: The maximum funding period is 3 years. NIEHS only supports applicants at the assistant professor level. Candidates must be within 3 years of their appointment to their first independent faculty position at the time of submission (receipt date) of the application. Applicants in postdoctoral appointments and other non-permanent appointments such as research assistant or instructor are not eligible. Candidates must name a primary mentor who has active NIEHS research grant support, or a substantial history of NIEHS funded research grant support. The candidate's postdoctoral mentor(s) may not be the mentor for the candidate on the K01 award. The candidate’s research should be independent from previous mentor. If the candidate is at the same institution as the former postdoctoral or other research mentor, the independence of candidate’s proposed research from the former mentor's research should be addressed in the application. The application must also provide a document on institutional letterhead that describes its commitment to the candidate and the candidate's career development, independent of the receipt of the K award. It is also essential to document the institution's commitment to the retention, development, and advancement of the candidate during the period of the award. For additional information about NIH requirements for the institution’s commitment letter, applicants are referred to G.410 - PHS 398 Career Development Award Supplemental Form instructions under Institutional Commitment to Candidate's Research Career Development. The Career Development and Research Plan must be consistent with the research interests of NIEHS. For further information on the research interests of the Institute, please see: https://www.niehs.nih.gov/ Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the program official identified in the
contact table before preparing an application to discuss eligibility requirements and the relevance
of the proposed research to the Institute’s research priorities. |
