Clinical Trials Interest Areas
NIDDK supports clinical trials within our mission interests. In addition to general NIH Clinical Trial Requirements for Grants and Contracts, consider the following NIDDK-specific information:
- NIDDK supports clinical trial applications of all phases.
- NIDDK supports trial applications intended to be conducted as a distinct trial or within an existing clinical trial network.
- Community engagement at the inception of the trial concept and throughout the trial conduct is encouraged.
Clinical Trials Types of Trials Supported
NIDDK accepts applications for all phases, intervention types (e.g., drugs, devices, nutritional, behavioral, etc.), and trial methods (e.g., pilot and feasibility, efficacy, pragmatic, implementation, etc.) of clinical trials within the NIDDK mission areas. Innovative trial designs and methods are encouraged.
Clinical Trials Project Period Considerations
Applications are currently accepted for a performance period up to five years.
Clinical Trials Budget Considerations
Clinical trial applications with total costs over $1 million per year may be subject to additional review. Investigators are encouraged to contact program staff prior to the submission of an application with an anticipated annual total cost over $1 million.
