Clinical Trials Interest Areas

NIDCR has a particular interest in: 

  • Clinical trials evaluating preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and regenerative interventions for dental, oral, and craniofacial (DOC) diseases and conditions.
  • Interventions of drugs, biologics, devices, procedures and behaviors. 
  • Clinical trials that incorporate milestone-driven development, such as an initial planning stage followed by implementation upon successful completion of predefined milestones. 

Clinical Trials Types of Trials Supported

NIDCR supports:

  • Efficacy, effectiveness, comparative effectiveness, and safety trials designed to establish, evaluate, and improve the standard of care for DOC health, and to enhance the delivery of evidence-based DOC care.

Clinical Trials Project Period Considerations

  • Project period may not exceed one year for the planning phase. 
  • Project period may not exceed five years for the implementation phase.

Clinical Trials Budget Considerations

  • Application budgets are limited to less than $400,000 in direct costs for the planning phase.
  • Application budgets for the implementation phase are not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.
