OLAW Welcomes Nicole Zimmerman

OLAW is pleased to announce that Ms. Nicole L. Zimmerman joined the Division of Policy and Education as a Laboratory Animal Welfare Analyst in September 2014. Ms. Zimmerman's appointment was achieved through the NIH Pathways Program, a mechanism that enables NIH divisions to retain high performance student interns in career appointments. Nicole volunteered at OLAW when she was a high school student in 2009. She continued her service at OLAW as an Animal Welfare Policy Intern throughout high school and until her graduation with honors from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in May 2014 with majors in Public Policy and Economics and minors in Anthropology and Environmental Studies. In 2012, Nicole gained international experience by interning for a member of Canadian Parliament, Wayne Marston. Mr. Marston’s portfolio included human rights, economic development and budgeting. During her service as an intern, Nicole performed tasks for all OLAW divisions. She served on the planning committee for OLAW’s Animal Welfare and Scientific Research 1985 to 2010 Symposium and was awarded the NIH Office of the Director award in 2011. Nicole has assisted with the OLAW webinar series; a report she created on the adoption of the 8th edition of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals was used by the OLAW director in a webinar. Welcome to OLAW, Nicole!
