The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) will accept applications from institutions or
organizations to support
conferences, symposia, workshops and/or meetings that align with our mission
and strategic priorities. NINR discovers solutions to health challenges through the lenses of
health equity, social determinants of health,
population and community health, prevention and health promotion and systems and models of care. Under
the 2022-26
strategic plan, NINR has identified firearm injury prevention research as its first strategic
imperative. Drawing on the
strengths of nursing’s holistic, contextualized perspective, core values, and broad reach, NINR funds
multilevel and
cross-sectoral research that examines the factors that impact health across the many settings in which
nurses practice,
including homes, schools, workplaces, clinics, justice settings, and the community.
The NINR encourages enhanced participation of early career scientists and trainees, particularly those from traditionally under-represented backgrounds as well as applications from minority serving institutions and other organizations that have historically been under-served. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult with appropriate NINR staff when considering a R13 application. More information about NINR’s lenses and priorities can be found here: |

NHGRI will support the development of resources, approaches, and
technologies that will accelerate GENOMIC research on the structure of genomes, the biology of genomes,
and the biology of disease; that will advance the science of genomic medicine; and that will incorporate
genomics to improve the effectiveness of healthcare. NHGRI will also support GENOMIC research in several
cross-cutting areas, including the ethical, legal and societal implications of genomics and genetics
research, bioinformatics, technology development, and research training and career
development. In general, NHGRI supports studies that provide generalizable methods and knowledge. Applications for studies relevant only to a particular disease or organ system should be directed to the appropriate Institute or Center. NHGRI strongly encourages potential applicants to contact program staff in the early stages of developing your application. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Scientific Program Contact: |
Due to budgetary constraints, the NHLBI is only accepting primary and secondary assignments on applications for the support of meetings directly related to heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders and conditions. All requests for permission to submit an application should include a listing of recent or upcoming meetings addressing the same or similar topics, if any, and the "value-added" by the proposed meeting. Typically, NHLBI provides nominal support for conferences between $5K and $10K.

NIAMS is committed to enhancing diversity and promoting inclusion. Conference grant applications
seeking NIAMS support must provide a diversity plan, in accordance with the Funding Opportunity
requirements, for increasing the participation of individuals from diverse backgrounds,
including those from underrepresented groups. NIAMS will also place priority on supporting
opportunities for participation in professional development activities, as well as enhanced
networking potential, for early stage researchers and individuals from underrepresented
groups. Additional information on the NIAMS R13 Program can be found at https://www.niams.nih.gov/grants-funding/niams-r13-conference-grant. |

Conference Grants are awarded to institutions and organizations
(not individuals) to provide partial support for meetings, conferences, and workshops to coordinate,
exchange, and disseminate research information. The NIDDK is interested in conference grants
proposing travel expense support for junior investigators and trainees and meet criteria to
establishing programmatic relevance. Generally awarded funds are limited to such support. In
addition, individuals from under-represented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with
disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support. Letters of intent (LOI) are due at least 6
weeks prior to the application receipt date. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult with
appropriate NIDDK program staff when considering an R13 application. Agreement to accept an
application does not guarantee funding. |
National Institutes of General Medicine https://www.nigms.nih.gov/research-training/resources/support-for-scientific-meetings Grants Management Contact: |
In general, NIGMS will only support meetings that fulfill all of
the following characteristics: -are closely aligned with NIGMS’ central mission and interests, -are non-recurring, and -include participants who do not frequently interact in other venues |
National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) Scientific Program Contact: Grants Management Contact: |
Through its support for mission-relevant scientific conferences, the NIMH seeks to promote inclusion within the neuroscience and mental health research workforce, with a particular focus on advancing the participation of women and individuals from underrepresented minority (URM) groups. Since the specific goal is to promote inclusion, meeting organizers should propose to use the funds for the following activities:
AND
These grants generally support only a portion of the entire cost of a conference or scientific meeting. Typically, NIMH provides up to $20,000 to support for conferences. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult with appropriate NIMH program staff when considering an R13 application. Agreement to accept an application does not guarantee funding. |

Office of Autoimmune Disease Research
(OADR-ORWH) Scientific Program Contact: |
OADR-ORWH is accepting submission of “permission-to-submit” applications for R13 proposals seeking funding for the support of scientific conferences and workshops that will bring together subject matter experts in autoimmune disease research with the goal of developing and refining Common Data Elements (CDEs) for autoimmune disease research. The use of CDEs supports the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy by facilitating harmonization of data from different studies and interoperability. |
Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) Scientific Program Contact: Grants Management Contact: |
The Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) advances
the NIH mission by supporting research infrastructure and research-related resource programs and by
coordinating NIH’s science education efforts. ORIP’s high-priority thematic areas are: (1) developing
models of human diseases; (2) accelerating research discoveries by providing access to state-of-the-art
instrumentation; and (3) training and diversifying the biomedical workforce. For models-oriented conferences and meetings, proposals to be considered must be applicable to the research interests of two or more categorical NIH Institutes/Centers (ICs). Applications that relate strictly to a specific disease or category of research will not be accepted and should be proposed to the appropriate categorical IC of the NIH. Furthermore, applications proposing conferences or scientific meetings that are related predominantly to the interest of one IC and only peripherally to the interests of other ICs are not acceptable. For training-oriented conferences and meetings, applications with a primary focus on veterinarian-scientists as translational researchers will receive priority for consideration. These grants generally support only a portion of the entire cost of a conference or scientific meeting. Typically, ORIP provides nominal support for conferences between $5K and $10K. |
