UPDATE ON STATUS OF APPLICATION FORMS REVISIONS

Release Date: August 18, 1998

P.T.

National Institutes of Health

The revised PHS 398 and PHS 2590 grant application forms should be available
in September. Prior to their availability, the National Institutes of Health
(NIH) will publish a notice in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts
announcing the implementation schedule for their use and instructions for
obtaining copies of the new forms. Applicants should continue to use the 5/95
version of the PHS 398 and PHS 2590 until further notice.

An advance copy of the forms pages of the revised PHS 398 and PHS 2590 (4/98
version) is available so that those who use or develop specialized software
packages to complete the forms may begin to modify their software, as
necessary. The 4/98 version of the PHS 398 and PHS 2590 will not be accepted
by the Center for Scientific Review (CSR) until the availability and
implementation schedule is announced in the NIH Guide. Advanced copies of the
revised form pages, in PDF format, may be found at:
https://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms.htm

Approval is pending for the revised version of the Application for an
Individual National Research Service Award (PHS 416-1) and the Application for
Continuation of an Individual National Research Service Award (PHS 416-9).
The current forms (8/95 version) have been extended for use through September
30, 1998. Again, applicants should continue to use the current forms until
further notice.
