Notice Number: NOT-RR-09-014
Update: The following update relating to this announcement has been issued:
Key Dates
Release Date: May 26, 2009
Issued by
National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), (http://www.ncrr.nih.gov)
This notice changes the current RFA-RM-09-004 to include a prior approval request for appointing TL1 predoctoral candidates pursing a combined doctoral level professional degree along with a Master’s degree in a clinical research-related discipline. Additionally, the notice clarifies the NRSA policy that permits one year training experiences for health-professional students pursuing a MD, DDS/DMD, DO, DNP, or PharmD.
Section III, 1.B.3. Eligible Research Education, Research Training and Research Career Development trainees, scholars and mentors currently include the statement:
Predoctoral trainees
NRSA traineeships are not provided for study leading to a MD, DO, DDS, DNP, PharmD or other similar professional clinical degrees, or a master's degree that is not pursued in a combined program with a professional level doctorate. Individuals currently supported by other Federal funds are not eligible for trainee support from the T32 program at the same time. Trainees are customarily appointed for full-time, 12-month continuous periods. An individual trainee may receive no more than five years of NRSA support in aggregate at the predoctoral level, including any combination of support from institutional training grants and individual fellowship awards.
This Notice amends the FOA to include an additional statement. The amended statement will read:
NRSA traineeships are not provided for study leading to a MD, DO, DDS/DMD, DNP, PharmD or other similar professional clinical degree, or a master's degree unless pursued within a combined program with a professional level doctorate. Prior approval must be obtained from NCRR for training programs offering professional clinical doctoral degrees other than those specifically listed above before trainees can be accepted into the combined program.
Clinical Health-professional students
This Notice further amends the FOA to add a statement regarding the NRSA policy that permits one year training experiences for health-professional students pursuing a MD, DDS/DMD, DO, DNP, or PharmD. The new statement will read:
Students who are officially enrolled in a health-professional doctoral program and wish to augment their professional studies to gain research experience, may be appointed for one year to the CTSA TL1 research training grant. TL1 research experience appointments will be granted provided that NRSA eligibility requirements are met.
