Issued by
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)

Purpose

This Notice redefines the U01 activity code and announces the transition of U01 applications to electronic submission through Grants.gov using the SF424 (R&R) forms for due dates on or after May 25, 2011.

Effective May 25, 2011 U01 activity code will be used for single research project cooperative agreements ONLY. All applications in response to U01 funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) must be submitted electronically.

Multi-research-project cooperative agreements will be given new activity codes and will continue to use paper submission.

Process

For single research project cooperative agreements:  All FOAs for existing single project U01s with due dates on or after May 25, 2011 will be expired on May 8, 2011 and should be re-issued by March 25, 2011 with the appropriate application package and instructions for electronic submission.  Once they are available, applicants must go to the new FOA to obtain the electronic application package and follow the new instructions for electronic submission.

For multi-research project cooperative agreements: All U01 FOAs that currently allow applications for multi-research projects with due dates on or after May 25, 2011 will be expired on May 8, 2011 and should be re-issued by March 25, 2011 with new, alternate activity codes. Multiple-project applications will NOT transition to electronic submission at this time.

Important Reminder

As announced previously (NOT-OD-10-134), all applications submitted to the NIH must be submitted in response to an FOA published in the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts.
