NIDCR National Research Service Award Institutional Research Training Grants Addendum to PAR-00-116 Release Date: July 2, 2002 NOTICE: NOT-DE-02-002 (also see PAR-00-116) National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) (http://www.nidcr.nih.gov) Application Receipt Date: September 10, 2002 This addendum is to inform potential applicants of the NIDCR National Research Service Award Institutional Research Training Grants ("comprehensive T32 programs") of the following: 1) NIDCR will continue the "comprehensive" T32 program, where "comprehensive" refers to the different types of trainees and not the number of disciplines in which training is offered. Programs may offer a broad breadth of disciplines or a more focused set of training opportunities. However, regardless of the number of disciplines in which training is offered, the training opportunities must be interdisciplinary and linkage with schools of medicine, public health, engineering or arts and sciences is encouraged. The following additional components are required in all applications for comprehensive T32 programs: o Training must be interdisciplinary in nature, linkage (appropriate to the type of training offered) with schools of medicine, public health, engineering or arts and sciences are strongly encouraged to ensure a critical mass of mentors offering training in cutting edge science. o Programs must contain positions for postdoctoral training of dentists (either leading to the PhD, Masters in Clinical Research, or just additional research training with no terminal degree). o Programs must contain summer training positions for dental students. o Programs are encouraged to accept or accommodate dental students from institutions that do not have a T35 award, the costs of travel and housing are to be shared by the home and grantee institution. o The NIDCR will entertain a request from a T32 awardee for supplemental slots for dental students from an outside institution to participate in a summer short-term research training program if the awardee does not have available positions. o Applicants may request training positions for predoctoral trainees (persons without professional degrees working towards the Ph.D.), traditional postdoctoral trainees (Ph.D."s seeking additional research training), and individuals interested in pursuing the dental degree and Ph.D. degrees in an integrated program. 2) For Short-Term Research Training Grants (T35 mechanism): o Only institutions with a comprehensive T32 will be eligible for short-term training programs (as part of the overall T32). There will be no more T35 awards as stand alone projects. 3) At the time of submitting the original application to the Center for Scientific Review, two additional copies of the application, including two copies of any appendices, must be sent to: Dr. George Hausch Acting Director Division of Extramural Activities National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research Building 45, Room 4AN-44F Bethesda, Maryland 20892-6402 The complete PAR can be found at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-00-116.html.
