Notice Announcing NIAMS-specific Policies Related to New Salary and Research Cost Allowances for K08 and K23 Career Development Awards

Purpose

This Notice announces that in FY 2016, the NIAMS will increase its salary contribution up to a maximum of $100,000 for K08 and K23 recipients whose awards are based on a 75% minimum effort requirement.  Additionally, the NIAMS will also increase its contribution from $50,000 to a maximum of $100,000 for orthopaedic surgeon K08 and K23 recipients who have a 50% minimum effort requirement.  As a reminder, the formula for calculating the NIAMS salary contribution (X) is Institutional Base Salary x % effort = X (not to exceed $100,000). The NIAMS will also be increasing its research costs allowance to $30,000.

All K08s and K23s awarded in FY 2016, both competing and non-competing, will be calculated using these new figures and all future years will be adjusted accordingly. 

Applicants and awardees are encouraged to consult each funding opportunity announcement and contact appropriate NIAMS staff to determine the salary and research cost contributions for their K08 and K23 applications or awards:
