Purpose

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Caenorhabditis Interventions Testing Program (CITP) is soliciting proposals for compounds to enter the study in calendar years 2024-2025. This is not a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), but rather a solicitation of suggestions for compounds to be tested in the CITP. This Notice is a reissue of NOT-AG-23-001.

The NIA CITP was established to test compounds purported to extend lifespan and/or delay the onset of dysfunction and physiological decline. The NIA CITP aims to identify and test pharmacological interventions that may moderate/alleviate health decline associated with aging in a robust manner using a genetically diverse set of Caenorhabditis strains. The CITP consists of four major components: three testing centers and a data coordinating center. There is a testing center at Rutgers State University of New Jersey, the Buck Institute, and the University of Oregon. The data coordinating center is also located at the University of Oregon.

The CITP is a collaborative effort between the three study sites and the sponsor who recommends interventions to study. The sponsor’s role is to provide the rationale for investigating the intervention(s), to make recommendations on the dose and modality of administration, and to propose assays and measurements to document the efficacy of the intervention(s). The sponsor will have access to all data on the proposed intervention generated from the study, may assist in analysis of the data, and will be a co-author on resulting publications. Sponsor proposals for specific interventions are reviewed by an Access Panel and prioritized by the CITP Steering Committee. All results of these studies, both positive and negative, will be published, and the data will be made publicly available. Any delays to publication will be reviewed by the CITP Steering Committee, whose decision will be final.

The deadline for receipt of proposals is May 1, 2024. Information on the NIA CITP and guidelines for proposal development are posted on the NIA’s CITP proposals webpage and the CITP website. Completed application forms should be submitted by email to Dr. Tiziana Cogliati at tiziana.cogliati@nih.gov
