NOT-CA-20-086 - Notice of Intent to Publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement for New Cohorts to Assess Environmental Exposures and Cancer Risk (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Optional)

Issued by

National Cancer Institute (NCI)

Purpose

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for a Coordinating Center to facilitate coordination across approximately five cohorts that are expected to be awarded under a separate RFA (see the parallel notice of intent to publish announcement NOT-CA-20-086). The Coordinating Center will be supported by a U24 award.

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants time to develop responsive projects and meaningful collaborations.

The FOA is expected to use the U24 activity codes for the Coordinating Center (Clinical Trials Not Allowed).

The FOA is expected to be published in November 2020 with an expected application due date in January 2021.

Details of the planned FOAs are provided below.

Research Initiative Details

This Notice encourages investigators with expertise and insights into this area of coordination of scientific research activities from prospective cohorts focused on environmental exposures and cancer risk to begin to consider applying for this new FOA.

To fulfill the main responsibilities of the Coordinating Center, applicants will be expected to have appropriate expertise in meeting coordination, the management of large-scale cancer research, data management, development of standard operating procedures for core data collection across cohorts, resource sharing, and deposition of data to NIH repositories. Teams of investigators with the appropriate expertise should begin considering applying for this FOA.

The Coordinating Center will be responsible for providing a centralized administrative infrastructure to facilitate activities related to cohorts, provide logistical support for meetings, develop in collaboration with cohort investigators standard operating procedures to assist with the collection of common data elements, assist with metrics for assessment of critical milestones and timelines, and work with NIH program staff as needed.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications for:

  • A Coordinating Center (U24).

The Coordinating Center (U24) will facilitate coordination across the cohorts for environmental exposures and cancer risk (CEECR) (UG3/UH3 phased awards; NOT-CA-20-086).
