Key Dates
National Institute on Aging (NIA)
This Notice informs the research community that the National Institute on Aging (NIA) intends to reissue Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) RFA-AG-20-020, "Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in Basic Biology of Aging (P30 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)." The NOFO will solicit applications seeking funding for leadership, training, and research activities that will aim to increase and disseminate scientific knowledge in research areas related to the biology of aging.
In addition to reissuing RFA-AG-20-020, NIA intends to reissue its companion NOFO, RFA-AG-20-021, Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center (U24). Therefore, potential applicants may also be interested in reviewing NOT-AG-23-063, "Notice of Intent to Publish the Reissuance of RFA-AG-20-021, "Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center (U24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)."
This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.
The NOFO is expected to be published in winter 2024 with an expected application due date in summer 2024. Note that these time frames are simply estimations, and they may change.
This NOFO will utilize the P30 Center Core Grants activity code.
Additional details about the planned NOFO are provided below.
Background
The Nathan Shock Centers for Excellence in Aging Biology (NSC) conducts leadership, training, and research activities that aim to increase the dissemination of scientific knowledge in research areas supported by NIA's Division of Aging Biology (DAB). The NSC facilitates sustained progress on basic aging research, either overall or on a key area within the field. This is achieved primarily through intellectual leadership and innovation, support of innovative cores, and funding of pilot studies for investigators willing to expand their research into aging biology.
The Initiative
The purpose of the NOFO will be to enhance, sustain, and support basic research on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of aging. The NOFO may include support for clinical research, including research on humans, but not clinical trials.
Investigators with expertise and insights focused on leadership, research, and training in the field of the basic biology of aging are encouraged to consider applying to the NOFO.
