Part 2. Section 1. Funding Opportunity Description

FOA is modified to read:

Background

While historically observational studies, small scale human feeding studies, and basic human and animal research have provided evidence of health effects associated with various levels of alcohol consumption, studies utilizing rigorous methods, i.e. randomized controlled trials (RCT’s), to respond to sometimes conflicting findings and other unanswered questions remain scarce. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is interested in funding well designed studies to address this research gap. The National Institute on Neurological Diseases and Stroke (NINDS) is interested in alcohol’s effects on the incidence of ischemic stroke as reported in observational studies.
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is interested in exploring the health and quality of life effects of alcohol consumption that are associated with age-related decline in cognitive and physical function.
