IACUC 101: The Basics is a one-day didactic and interactive exploration of IACUC fundamentals appropriate for new and seasoned IACUC members, IACUC affiliates, and individuals responsible for their institution's animal care program. The course provides a basic yet comprehensive overview of the laws, regulations, and policies that govern the humane care and use of research animals.
 

OLAW Article on Adverse Events at Research Facilities

Swapna Mohan, Lori Hampton, and Susan Silk have published an article about Adverse Events at Research Facilities (PDF) in the June issue of Lab Animal. Here, the authors, who are members of the OLAW Division of Policy and Education, describe types of adverse events for facilities to consider when assessing risk and developing a disaster plan. Plus, they provide recommendations to prevent commonly reported animal welfare issues.

Next Generation Researchers Initiative

NIH recently announced the Next Generation Researchers Initiative to enhance funding to early-stage and mid-career investigators and help stabilize and strengthen the biomedical research enterprise. This initiative shifts NIH’s approach away from the Grant Support Index to more directly support early-stage and mid-career investigators.
