INACTIVATION: SELECTED NIAID PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENTS Release Date: October 2, 1998 P.T. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is inactivating its sponsorship of selected Program Announcements (PAs). NIAID will not give special consideration for funding to applications in response these PAs received after February 1, 1999. NIAID regularly reviews its portfolio of active program announcements. When the objectives of PAs have been attained, NIAID announces inactivation of those PAs. NIAID supports highly scientifically meritorious applications in all areas of research within its mission, including the scientific areas delineated in these PAs. PA inactivation simply means that special consideration for funding beyond normal paylines will NO LONGER be given to applications on the research topics identified in the inactivated PAs. However, such applications will be accepted, reviewed, and considered for funding with all other investigator-initiated applications. At any time, potential applicants can obtain a current listing of active NIAID PAs on the NIAID WWW site at URL: http://www.niaid.nih.gov/ncn/pa-table.htm The PAs being inactivated are: PA-96-051: The Role of Microbes in Autoimmunity/Immune-Mediated Diseases, NIH Guide, May 10, 1996 PA-96-053: Gender in the Pathogenesis of Autoimmunity, NIH Guide, May 10, 1996 PA-97-003: The Immunobiological Consequences of Aging, NIH Guide, October 18, 1996 PA-97-073: Mucosal Immunity in the Pathogenesis/Prevention of Human Diseases, NIH Guide, July 18, 1997 PA-97-075: Direct vs. Indirect Antigen Recognition in Allograft Survival, NIH Guide, July 25, 1997 PA-97-076: The Immunobiological Aspects of Hematopoietic Stem Cells, NIH Guide, July 25, 1997 PA-97-077: Minor Histocompatibiity Antigens in GVHD and Graft Rejection, July 25, 1997 PA-97-078: Inflammation in Asthma and Allergy, NIH Guide, July 25, 1997 PA-97-079: Innate Immunity, NIH Guide, July 25, 1997 PA-97-081: Basic and Clinical Research on Immune Tolerance, NIH Guide, July 25, 1997 PA-97-089: Mechanisms of the Immune Response to Xenotransplantation Antigens, NIH Guide, August 8, 1997 PA-97-090: Three Dimensional Structures of Immunological Proteins, NIH Guide, August 8, 1997 PA-97-098: Autoimmunity: Genetics, Mechanisms and Signaling, August 29, 1997 PA-97-099: Genes and Mechanisms Underlying Primary Immunodeficiency, NIH Guide, August 29, 1997 PA-97-100: Regulation of the Immune Response, NIH Guide, August 29, 1997 PA-97-101: Basic Mechanisms of Vaccine Efficacy, NIH Guide, August 29, 1997 PA-98-013: The Generation and Maintenance of Immunological Memory, NIH Guide, December 5, 1997 INQUIRIES For questions or further information, contact: Office of the Director Division of Extramural Activities National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Solar Building, Room 3C20 Bethesda, MD 20892-7610 Telephone: (301) 496-7291 FAX: (301) 402-0369 Email: ac20a@nih.gov
