The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK),
Division of Kidney, Urologic and Hematologic Diseases (DKUHD), has a
requirement for the United States Renal Data System USRDS. This new phase of
the USRDS will be comprised of the USRDS Coordinating Center (USRDS-CC), one
to three Biomedical Special Studies Centers (Biomedical SSCs) and one Economic
Special Studies Center (Economic SSC). This solicitation is for the USRDS
Coordinating Center. The USRDS-CC will assume the registry function of the
current Coordinating Center. Specifically, the USRDS-CC will: (1) receive,
verify, format, store and update data on End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and
Pre-ESRD (when available) patients; (2) Incorporate newly generated data from
special studies and existing data studies and analyses into the master USRDS
database; (3) Prepare the USRDS Annual Data Reports (ADRs); (4) Perform
existing data studies needed to support the ADRs; (5) Provide data to support
research performed by the Special Studies Centers; (6) Provide data to the
research community according to the 2-hour rule; and (7) Develop and provide
Standard Analysis Files and Tailored Data Files to support individual
investigator-initiated research.
All responsible sources may submit a proposal which will be considered by the
agency. The Government is not committed to award a contract pursuant to this
announcement. The Request for Proposals, RFP No. NIH-NIDDK-98-7 will be
issued on or about May 1, 1998 with a closing date of on or about July 31,
1998. Requests for the RFP must be in writing and cite the referenced RFP
