TUBERCULOSIS INTERNATIONAL TRAINING AND RESEARCH PROGRAM Release Date: March 18, 1998 P.T. Fogarty International Center This notice describes a limited competition for supplements related to tuberculosis to existing (and recompeting) Fogarty International Center (FIC) AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) and International Training and Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases (ITREID) Program awards. Eligibility is limited because building upon the above-mentioned existing investments in HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases is the most cost-effective approach available for the FIC to respond to the urgent global need for training and capacity building related to tuberculosis, including the great threat posed by multiple drug resistant tuberculosis. This flexible training program provides for both long- and short-term training for foreign health scientists and is closely related to NIAID-supported TB research in both the U.S. and abroad. Although competition for these supplements is limited, FIC wishes to call attention to its efforts to respond to this emergent situation.
