REFERENCE LETTERS NOW REQUIRED FOR NIMH DISSERTATION GRANTS NIH GUIDE, Volume 24, Number 17, May 12, 1995 P.T. Keywords: National Institute of Mental Health Three letters of reference are now required of applicants for Minority Dissertation Research Grants in Mental Health (PAR 94-053) and applicants for Dissertation Research Grants in: Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychopathology; HIV-AIDS Research; or Mental Health Services Research (PAR 94-063). One letter of reference must be submitted by the chairperson of the applicant's dissertation committee; the others should be from previous or present research mentors or supervisors or someone else with direct knowledge of the applicant's potential as a researcher. The letters of reference must be submitted in sealed envelopes with the application. This requirement is effective beginning with the August 10, 1995 receipt date. The following review criterion is also added to these program announcements: o Strength and specificity of the endorsements of the references concerning the applicant's potential to contribute to mental health research.
