Effective with the June 1, 1995 receipt date for all unsolicited

program project grant applications, the National Institute of

Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) will conduct a

preliminary scientific peer review to eliminate those program project

applications that are not competitive. Those applications will be

withdrawn from further review without receiving a priority score, and

a summary statement including the reviewers' unedited comments will

be sent directly to the applicant.

As with all large grant mechanisms, potential program project

applicants are strongly encouraged to contact NIDDK staff before

submission of an application. Contact with staff early in the

beginning stages of application preparation will enable staff to

determine programmatic interest as well as ensuring that current

guidelines are followed.
