The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) requires a

Reading Center to interpret cerebral magnetic resonance images (MRI)

performed in the epidemiological research study of the major factors

contributing to the occurrence of cardiovascular disease in middle-aged

adults entitled "Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study (ARIC)."

The MRI Reading Center will assist in protocol development for the

performance of cerebral MRI on 2,000 participants at 2 of the ARIC

Field Centers and will perform measurements and interpretations of

these images in a standardized and reproducible manner.  The period of

performance is anticipated to be March 1, 1993 through February 28,

1995.



This is an announcement for a Request for Proposals (RFP).  RFP

NHLBI-HC-92-21 will be available on or about April 14, 1992, with

proposals due June 1, 1992.  One award is anticipated to be made during

December 1992.  Written requests must include three mailing labels,

self addressed, and must cite RFP No. NHLBI-HC-92-21.
