Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is collaborating with the NIH in the Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) program. The IDRC will invite applications for parallel support from GEOHealth Hub applicants. The IDRC will only consider funding of Low- and Middle-Income Country (LMIC) institutions that lead or are involved in applications to the NIH Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs):RFA-TW-14-001 "Hubs of Interdisciplinary Research and Training in Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) – Research (U01)" and RFA-TW-14-002 "Hubs of Interdisciplinary Research and Training in Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) – Research Training (U2R)". Participation by the IDRC in the GEOHealth program does not increase the total available funds for each GEOHealth Hub award but may enable the program to fund additional Hubs.
All applications in response to these FOAs must be submitted to the NIH and be reviewed by the NIH. Applicants to the GEOHealth program must submit two linked applications to the NIH to be eligible for parallel NIH and IDRC funding – one from the U.S. institution for a research training award and one from the LMIC institution for a research award. Eligibility is detailed in the GEOHealth FOAs.
Applicants who wish to be considered for IDRC support are invited to submit directly to the IDRC a copy of their NIH applications (both the U.S and LMIC parts) within 30 days of the NIH application deadline, and subsequently their NIH peer review results (NIH Summary Statements). Additional guidance to potential applicants and details about the IDRC-NIH partnership can be found at http://www.idrc.ca/EN/Funding/Competitions/Pages/CompetitionDetails.aspx?CompetitionID=85. Potential applicants are encouraged to review answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the GEOHealth program. These FAQs will be updated on a regular basis.
