This Notice redefines the Eligible PD/PIs to allow for increased opportunities for NIH supported Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC) trainees to apply for this program, and clarifies that the intent of Global Initiative Research Program (GRIP) is to support independent research.
The John E. Fogarty International Center (FIC) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) published the Funding Opportunity Announcement Limited Competition for the Global Research Initiative Program, Basic/Biomedical Sciences (R01) (PAR-10-278), in September 2010. In order to improve access to this program by scientists from LMIC, eligible PD/PIs are redefined in this notice.
Currently Defined Eligible PD/PIs for PAR-10-278Section III. Eligibility Information
1.B. Eligible Individuals
Any individual(s) with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as the PD/PI is invited to work with his/her organization to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support.
Only one PD/PI may be designated on the application responding to this FOA. The PD/PI must be registered in the NIH electronic Research Administration (eRA) Commons prior to the submission of the application (seehttps://grants.nih.gov/grants/ElectronicReceipt/preparing.htm for instructions).
Only applicants from institutions in eligible countries may apply. FIC strongly encourages applications from women and individuals from underrepresented racial, ethnic and socially disadvantaged groups.
In order to be eligible, applicants must meet all the following three requirements:
This Notice redefines the eligible PD/PIs by making trainees under all FIC research training and research programs eligible for GRIP. The eligibility statements are rewritten as follows:
