Background

The John E. Fogarty International Center (FIC) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will be reissuing RFA-TW-06-006 for the International Tobacco and Health Research and Capacity Building Program (TOBAC) (R01).

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive applications. The FOA is expected to be published in late spring 2011 with an anticipated receipt date in early fall 2011. Awards will provide up to 5 years of support.

Purpose

This program encourages trans-disciplinary approaches to the tobacco epidemic in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs) to reduce the global burden of tobacco-related illness. Eligibility

Applicants should have experience in tobacco or other closely related global health research and/or research training. An application must include at least one HIC and one LMIC, either of which can serve as an applicant institution.
