The John E. Fogarty International Center (FIC) intends to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to reissue PAR-08-112. This FOA will encourage applications for the Brain Disorders in the Developing World: Research across the Lifespan (R01).

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive proposals. This FOA is expected to be published in early fall 2010 with an anticipated receipt date of early winter of 2011. The FOA will utilize the NIH Research Projects (R01) grant mechanism. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.


This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will encourages grant applications proposing the development and conduct of innovative, collaborative research and research training projects, between High Income country (HIC) and low- to middle-income country (LMIC) scientists, on nervous system function and disorders throughout life, relevant to LMICs. The collaborative research programs are expected to contribute to the long-term goals of building sustainable research capacity in LMICs to address nervous system development, function and impairment throughout life and leading to diagnostics, treatment and prevention strategies that are applicable worldwide.

We encourage potential applicants, who have not previously registered with and submitted a grant application to NIH, to start the registration processes as soon as possible, even before FOA publication, since it can take up to 8 weeks to be fully registered.
