Fogarty International Center (FIC)
Background
The John E. Fogarty International Center (FIC) intends to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to reissue PAR-08-222. This FOA will encourage applications for the Fogarty International Research Collaboration Basic Biomedical (FIRCA-BB) Research Award (R03).
This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive proposals. This FOA is expected to be published in early fall of 2010 with an anticipated receipt date only once per year beginning early winter of 2011. The FOA will utilize the NIH Research Projects (R03) grant mechanism. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.
The Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) facilitates collaborative basic biomedical research between scientists supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and investigators in low-and middle-income countries (LMIC). Special consideration will be given to proposed research that addresses significant global health problems, particularly those of high relevance to a LMIC country or region. This FOA will also include an additional review criterion of Research Capacity Building.
Change in Competitions per Year
Upon the reissue of the FOA the FIRCA-BB will only be competed once per year.
Registration Requirements
We encourage potential applicants, who have not previously registered with and submitted a grant application to NIH, to start the registration processes as soon as possible, even before FOA publication, since it can take up to 8 weeks to be fully registered. These registrations need to be done only one time and the applicant organization is then set for all future application submissions to NIH through http://www.grants.gov.
