Notice Number: NOT-TR-16-012
Key Dates
Release Date: April 25, 2016
Issued by
National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS)
Purpose
The purpose of this announcement is to inform applicants and potential applicants of the discontinuation of PAR-15-173 (Pre-Application for Collaborative Innovation Award, CTSA Program (X02)).
Background: On April 2, 2015, NCATS released PAR-15-173 and PAR-15-172. Under these PARs, NCATS invites investigators interested in applying for funding under PAR-15-172 to first submit an X02 pre-application. Those X02 pre-applications are evaluated by outside experts, and those X02 pre-applications found to be meritorious and programmatically relevant are notified of the opportunity to submit a U01 application in response to PAR-15-172.
While the X02 pre-application step has been useful in assessing potential U01 applications, and providing feedback to investigators, it has also resulted in significant delays in the application process.
Therefore, we are discontinuing PAR-15-173. No more X02 pre-applications will be accepted.
Since one of the functions of the X02 was to assess programmatic relevance, investigators considering submitting a future U01 application are strongly encouraged to contact program staff and explore the programmatic priority of their proposed innovation.
X02 pre-applications submitted by the November 10, 2015, deadline have been reviewed. Investigators whose X02 pre-applications were found to be meritorious and programmatically relevant have been notified of the opportunity to submit a U01 application in response to PAR-15-172 for the July 7, 2016, due date.
X02 pre-applications submitted as of the March 8, 2016, deadline will be reviewed as scheduled in July 2016. Investigators whose X02 pre-applications are found to be meritorious and programmatically relevant will be notified of the opportunity to submit a U01 application in response to PAR-15-172 for the November 10, 2016, due date.
As noted above, U01 applications submitted for the July 7, 2016 and November 10, 2016 due dates will be based on X02 pre-applications that were reviewed and found to be meritorious and programmatically relevant. Therefore, investigators who were planning to submit an X02 pre-application for the next receipt date, July 6, 2016, with the goal of submitting a U01 for the March 9, 2017 receipt date are encouraged to plan for submission of the U01 application on March 9, 2017.
