National Center for Research Resources

The National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), a component of the
National Institutes of Health, announces the availability of the 2000 edition
of the Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual for Animal Research Facilities.
The document may be obtained free-of-charge at the NCRR Web site:

The Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual for Animal Research Facilities
provides a methodology for including a portion of costs associated with
animal research in an animal research facility in the institution’s
“Facilities and Administrative (F&A)” rates. This methodology will help
animal research facilities to apply recent policy changes issued by the
Division of Cost Allocation, Department of Health and Human Services. These
changes in the allocation of facility and other costs are in keeping with the
requests from investigators, research animal facility managers, institutional
administrators and scholarly societies to treat animal research facilities
similarly to other institutional research laboratory facilities. This manual
has been revised by an expert committee which consulted extensively with a
number of professional organizations. In addition, eight volunteer biomedical
research institutions field-tested the suggested methodology.

Institutions that cannot produce an electronic copy of the manual may request
a single copy. To order a copy or to obtain additional information, contact:
