Purpose

This Notice updates PAR-10-217 to inform applicants who plan to submit applications for Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research Centers (ERCs) awards about the following:

  • Use of budget formulas for training related expenses eliminated
  • 60/40 rule changed
  • Supplemental instructions revised
  • Funding for HST/HSAT programs eliminated
  • Agency contacts updated

Use of Budget Formulas for Training Related Expenses Eliminated

Budget formulas used in Section IV 6 Other Submission Requirements to define training related expenses based on a specified dollar amount per number of trainees in a program are no longer required. The revised 60/40 rule noted below should be used.

60/40 Rule Changed

Use of the 60/40 rule for trainee/training expenses will no longer apply to individual academic programs. It will apply for all academic programs combined.

Supplemental Instructions Revised

Minor updates and modifications to the ERC Supplemental Instructions and sample budget sheets for competing applications have been made to bring them in line with the new policies regarding the 60/40 rule and elimination of formula funding for Training-Related Expenses. These revised files (May 2012 revision date) are posted on the NIOSH website (http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/oep/funding.html#train) under Current Training Grant Opportunities.

Supplemental Tables for Competing ERC Applications Revised

The set supplemental tables (18) for competing ERC applications has been revised (May 2012 revision date) and posted on the NIOSH website (http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/oep/funding.html#train) under Current Training Grant Opportunities.

Funding for HST/HSAT Programs Eliminated

Funding for HST/HSAT programs was eliminated in 2012. Applicants should not include funding requests for these programs in their applications.
