Purpose

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is soliciting comments from the public on the NIH Draft Public Access Policy and two supplemental draft guidance documents regarding (1) government use license and rights and (2) costs for publications.  The NIH Draft Public Access Policy builds upon NIH’s long history of providing public access to scholarly publications resulting from the research it supports and proposes additional steps to accelerate access.

NIH will accept comments on the Draft Policy until August 19, 2024. Comments must be submitted electronically at: https://osp.od.nih.gov/comment-form-national-institutes-of-health-draft-public-access-policy/

Comments are voluntary and may be submitted anonymously. You may also voluntarily include your name and contact information with the response. Other than name and contact information, please do not include in the response any personally identifiable information or any information that you do not wish to make public. Proprietary, classified, confidential, or sensitive information should not be included in your response. After the Office of Science Policy (OSP) has finished reviewing the responses, the responses may be posted to the OSP website without redaction..
