Purpose

The Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) Module in eRA Commons is moving to the new visual appearance being adopted by other eRA modules, because of a required technology upgrade that enhances the security and stability of the module. The upgrade includes adding the new unique entity identifier (UEI) fields where applicable and required FORMS-G changes, including updated budget forms. These upgrades are expected to be released on June 23, 2022.

Action Required for Budget Forms

Recipients are alerted through this guide notice that budget forms (applicable to non-SNAP awards only) will be updated to a new format. As a result of this update, users with in-progress RPPR forms will be required to re-enter budget form data if the in-progress RPPR is not submitted by June 22, a day before the release.

RPPRs submitted on or before June 22 will reflect the FORMS-F budget forms. Due dates for submission of the RPPR remain unchanged. See https://grants.nih.gov/grants/rppr/index.htm.

RPPR Instruction Guide Updates

Accompanying the June 23, 2022 release, NIH will publish an updated RPPR instruction guide incorporating the new look and feel of the module. In the meantime, NIH is publishing an interim update to the RPPR instruction guide that will incorporate the following critical changes associated with recently issued guide notices.

These key updates include:

  • Modified instruction language to align with the updated Other Support and Biosketch format pages and associated instructions. See NOT-OD-21-073 and NOT-OD-21-110 and Other Support instructions.
  • For NIH, modified Question G.4. Human Subjects to incorporate Human Subjects System and Clinical Trials reporting language in line with NOT-OD-20-125.
  • Language for Question B.4 modified to incorporate electronic submission requirement for the trainee diversity report in line with NOT-OD-20-178.
  • Added instructional language for Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) childcare costs reporting and requests in the RPPR, as per NOT-OD-21-074 and NOT-OD-21-177. AHRQ NRSA recipients should refer to NOT-HS-22-013 (Individual Fellows) and NOT-HS-22-014 (Institutional Research Training Awards).
