Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH)

The Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is part of the Office of the Director of NIH and works in partnership with the 27 NIH Institutes and Centers to ensure that women's health research is part of the scientific framework at the NIH and throughout the scientific community. The 2019-2023 Trans-NIH Strategic Plan for Women's Health Research includes goals and objectives that aim to increase and improve women's health research and women’s health research-related career development supported by NIH. For this FOA, research proposed in alignment with the purpose and the health of women should address at least one objective from the strategic goals 1, 2, 3, or 4. ORWH is interested in supporting mission-focused studies that are uniquely responsive to socio-contextual factors that influence health across their lifespan (e.g. sex and gender impacts). Research topics of interest to the Office include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and assess strategies to enhance dissemination and implementation of culturally relevant and gender-sensitive care coordination models to address the complex needs of Native women with multiple chronic conditions.
  • Design, implement and assess Native community-focused clinical trials partnerships to expand access to drug trials and novel therapeutics among American Indian (AI)/Alaska Native (AN) populations.
  • Develop methods and leverage data sources to consider sex and gender influences and social determinants impacts on health risks and disease outcomes among AI/AN populations.
