This Notice is to inform the research community of the reissuance of RFA-OD-18-005, "Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Award in Tobacco Regulatory Research (K01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)."
When reissued, this FOA will continue to utilize the K01 grant mechanism. Modifications to this FOA will be the inclusion of new and revised research priorities.
This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and appropriate projects.
The FOA is expected to be published in Spring 2020 with an expected application due date in Summer 2020.
Research Initiative Details
The purpose of the Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Award in Tobacco Regulatory Research (K01) is to provide support and protected time (three, four, or five years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience in biomedical, behavioral, and social science research that will inform the development and evaluation of regulations on tobacco product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing and that will lead to research independence.
Research projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) as mandated by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (FSPTCA), Public Law 111-31. The awards under this FOA will be administered by NIH using funds made available through the CTP and the FSPTCA (P.L. 111-31).
Estimated Total Funding FDA CTP intends to fund up to 6 KO1's, corresponding to a total of up to $1 million in FY2021. Future year amounts will depend on the availability of funds.

Estimated Award Ceiling FDA CTP intends to contribute up to $90,000 per year toward the salary of the career award recipient and $60,000 per year toward research development costs.
