Purpose
This Notice provides information to Public Health Service (PHS) awardee institutions on public comments regarding proposed guidance on significant changes to ongoing animal activities.
Background
The PHS Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (Policy) requires that IACUCs review and approve, require modifications in (to secure approval) or withhold approval of proposed significant changes regarding use of animals in ongoing activities. (IV.B.7.) In NOT-OD-14-063, NIH sought input from the public on proposed guidance regarding what is considered a significant change to an ongoing animal activity that requires Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) review.
