This Notice informs Public Health Service (PHS) grantee institutions regarding release of the fifth edition of “Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories” (BMBL). BMBL is produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of Health and Safety and the National Institutes of Health to provide national guidelines to promote the safety and health of workers in biological and medical laboratories.

The BMBL was first published in 1984 and most recently revised in December 2009. The fifth edition is now available for purchase or download. For additional information, visit the CDC’s biosafety website at http://www.cdc.gov/biosafety (or http://www.cdc.gov/od/ohs).
