On August 30, 2006, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued a notice in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts ( http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-094.html ) to seek public comments regarding NIH's proposed policy for the creation of a centralized NIH GWAS data repository. A 60 day comment period was established upon publication of that notice. A subsequent notice containing identical information was also published in the Federal Register on August 30, 2006 ( http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20061800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2006/E6-14416.htm ).

The purpose of this notice is to inform all interested parties that the comment period originally identified in the August 30, 2006 NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts has been extended for thirty days, in order to maximize the opportunity for interested individuals and organizations to provide comments to NIH on this proposed policy. The closing period for the comment period will now be November 30, 2006.

Comments received during this comment period will contribute to a NIH Town Hall Meeting scheduled to take place December 14, 2006, as outlined in NOT-OD-07-013 in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts ( http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-07-013.html ). Therefore, it is important to receive all comments in response to the proposed policy on or before November 30, 2006. All of the comments received during the comment period and Town Hall Meeting will help inform the development of the proposed policy.
