Inquiries

Applicants are reminded that the National Institutes of Health is conducting a pilot on the option to include more than one Principal Investigator (PI) on a grant application. The programs participating in this pilot are listed on the Multiple PI website at http://grants2.nih.gov/grants/multi_pi/. The multiple PI option is available only for programs involved in the pilot and listed on the website.

As outlined in the May 11 NIH Guide Notice NOT-OD-O6-069 at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-069.html, applicants should not use the multiple PI option unless they are responding to one of the programs included in the pilot. Specifically, applicants should NOT include the PHS 398 Form Page 1- continued, nor a Multiple PI Leadership Plan as part of the Research Plan unless they are specifically responding to an announcement that includes Multiple PI as an option. Applications submitted in response to funding announcements that are not a part of the pilot but include this information may be delayed or in some cases may not be reviewed.

Applicants that are participating in the pilot initiatives are reminded that all participating PIs need to be registered in the NIH Commons at http://era.nih.gov/ElectronicReceipt/preparing.htm prior to submission. Also, applicants electing to use the multiple PI option must include a leadership plan as Section I of the Research Plan in the PHS 398 application kit. The application form can be found at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html.

Questions about the Multiple PI pilot can be sent to grantsinfo@nih.gov.
