National Institutes of Health (NIH), (http://www.nih.gov)

The NIH realizes that the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Katrina may lead to problems for investigators who are planning on submitting grant applications, particularly for the September 1, 2005 AIDS date. Applications that are submitted late because of Hurricane Katrina should include a cover letter noting the reasons for the delay. It is not necessary to get permission in advance for hurricane-related delays in grant application submissions. It is expected that the delay will generally not exceed the time period that an institution is closed.
