Purpose

The purpose of this notice is to inform the community that NINDS is changing the funding allowance for K99/R00 applications to NINDS. This change will apply to new NINDS K99/R00 awards made on or after the September 2019 NINDS Advisory Council meeting.

Currently, NINDS provides up to $100,000 salary (plus appropriate fringe benefit costs, plus up to $20,000 for research expenses) during the K99 phase for clinician-scientists who are licensed to practice clinically. This will remain unchanged.

For all awardees who are not licensed to practice clinically, NINDS currently provides up to $50,000 salary (plus appropriate fringe benefit costs, plus up to $20,000 for research expenses) during the K99 phase. Effective for awards made at or after the September 2019 NINDS Advisory Council meeting , NINDS will increase the amount provided for salary for this cohort of awardees to up to $75,000, and maintain other allowances at the current amounts, during the K99 phase. All other NINDS policies with regard to the K99/R00 award will remain unchanged.
