National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)
Purpose
The purpose of this notice is to inform the community that NINDS is changing the funding allowance for K99/R00 applications to NINDS. This change will apply to new NINDS K99/R00 awards made at or after the September 2019 NINDS Advisory Council meeting.
Currently, NINDS provides up to $100,000 salary (plus appropriate fringe benefit costs, plus up to $20,000 for research expenses) during the K99 phase for clinician-scientists who are licensed to practice clinically. This will remain unchanged.
For all awardees who are not licensed to practice clinically, NINDS currently provides up to $50,000 salary (plus appropriate fringe benefit costs, plus up to $20,000 for research expenses) during the K99 phase. Effective for awards made at or after the September 2019 NINDS Advisory Council meeting, NINDS will increase the amount provided for salary for this cohort of awardees to up to $75,000, and maintain other allowances at the current amounts, during the K99 phase. All other NINDS policies with regard to the K99/R00 award will remain unchanged.
