Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform potential applicants to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Neuroscience Biomarker Program Funding Opportunity Announcements PAR-18-548, PAR-18-549, PAR-18-550 about an area of special interest. The NINDS would like to encourage applications directed at the analytical and/or clinical validation of biomarkers associated with pain or pain therapies. Candidate biomarkers of particular interest are those that can be used to stratify patients in clinical trials, predict response to a therapeutic, and indicate target engagement.

Moreover, applications directed at developing biomarkers associated with pain or pain therapies are permitted to include aims related to biomarker discovery and identification in addition to aims related to analytical and/or clinical validation.

NINDS will hold an informational webinar about the Neuroscience Biomarker Program for potential applicants. The webinar is recommended for investigators who have identified candidate biomarkers and are interested in learning about the NINDS funding opportunities supporting rigorous validation of biomarkers in a manner that is consistent with FDA guidelines.

This webinar is optional and not required for submission of applications.
