Application budgets are not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project. For most studies within the scope of this FOA, the anticipated direct cost for individual awards is $2-3 million per year for a total of $10-15 million over a maximum five-year project period.

It is now modified to read:

Application budgets may not exceed $2.5 million in direct costs per year over. Many applications will not need to request the maximum budget and the size and duration of the awards will vary depending upon the nature and scope of research programs.
