Purpose

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) announces interest in applications for large, simple, randomized clinical trials on neurologic related emergency care in adults, which address significant public health issues. These trials must take place in the pre-hospital and/or emergency department settings. NINDS is particularly interested in multi-site clinical trial applications for simple pragmatic trials assessing novel interventions or comparative effectiveness. If funded, the proposed clinical trials will be implemented in a planned trans-federal emergency care network entitled Strategies to Innovate Emergency Care Clinical Trials Network (SIREN) (NOT-NS-15-021, NOT-NS-15-022, NOT-NS-15-023) (estimated start date March 2017). Since emergency care for stroke is incorporated into the NIH StrokeNet program (PAR-14-220), NINDS is interested in trials addressing neurologic emergencies other than stroke for the SIREN program.

Applications for emergency care clinical trials should be submitted to the funding opportunity announcement PAR-13-278, NINDS PHASE III Investigator-Initiated Multi-Site Clinical Trials (U01). Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact NINDS for further information and discussion.
