The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National
Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), and National Institute
of Mental Health (NIMH) have revised the application guidelines for PAS-99-080
(http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAS-99-080.html) to change the
maximum direct costs that may be requested for future applications that propose
the involvement of a consortium/contractual arrangement in which collaborations
to perform research responsive to this PA are established between scientists at
differing institutions. Applications that include a consortium/contractual
arrangement may request up to a maximum of $150,000 direct costs, including the
facilities and administrative costs (indirect costs) for the consortium
institution. Applications proposing research at a single institution may
request up to a maximum of $125,000 direct costs.

The specific revisions made to PAS-99-080 appear in the "Mechanism of Support"
and "Application Procedures" sections.

The first revision to the "Mechanism of Support" section appears at the end of
the first paragraph.

Applicants may request up to three years of support. Applications for research
at a single institution may request up to a maximum of $125,000 direct costs per
year. Applications that include a consortium/contractual arrangement may
request up to a maximum of $150,000 direct costs, including the facilities and
administrative costs (indirect costs) of the consortium institution.

The second revision to the "Mechanism of Support" section appears at the
beginning of the third paragraph.

Applications will request direct costs in $25,000 modules, up to a total direct
cost of $125,000 per year for up to three years for applications proposing
research at a single institution and up to a total direct cost of $150,000 per
year for up to three years for applications that include a
subcontract/consortium arrangement. The cost of equipment is included in the
budget limitation.

The final revision to the "Application Procedures" section appears in the
instructions for the Face Page.

Face Page - Items 7a and 7b should be completed, indicating Direct Costs (in
$25,000 increments up to a maximum of $125,000 for research at a single
institution, or up to a maximum of $150,000 for research involving a
consortium/contractual arrangement) and Total costs (Modular Total Direct plus
Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Costs) for the initial budget period.
