Section I. Funding Opportunity Description
The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) supports research that builds the scientific foundation for nursing practice and policy across clinical and community settings, and advances the prevention, detection, and management of disease and disability. Drawing on nursing’s holistic perspective, NINR funds observational, intervention, and translational research that integrates factors at multiple levels to identify their role in health, health improvement, and health inequities in the many settings where nurses practice, including hospitals and clinics, homes, schools, long-term care facilities, workplaces, criminal justice settings, and communities. NINR encourages research to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations, translating science in order to maximize the impact of findings on practice and policy.
For this FOA, NINR is interested in grant applications that examine the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on social determinants of health and, in turn, the health of underserved populations and health disparities. Also of interest is taking advantage of natural experiments to understand the effectiveness of interventions in the settings where nurses practice that address these pandemic-related changes in social determinants of health. Furthermore, applications that aim to understand the impact of the pandemic on the health of nurses and other healthcare workers will be a priority.
