The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA)to solicit applications for research on and resource activities of the Palliative Care Research Cooperative (PCRC) group that will facilitate cutting edge palliative care and end of life research. The PCRC will facilitate studies that need to be conducted quickly and with larger samples and multiple sites, and quantifying and better understanding the risks, issues, and impact of Life Limiting Diseases (LLDs) on patient and caregiver health outcomes.
This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants
sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive
projects.
The FOA is expected to be published in Fall 2012 with an expected receipt date
in early 2013.
This FOA will utilize the U24 activity code. Details of the planned FOA are
provided below.
This Notice encourages member investigators in the Palliative
Care Research Cooperative (PCRC) initiative to begin to consider applying for
this new FOA.
This limited competition solicitation is open to the PCRC and
its member institutions constituting the current PCRC group funded by NINR UC4NR012584. The aims of the
original UC4 included formulating, developing, and implementing a successful
and functional co-operative group; laying the foundations for and conducting a proof
of concept clinical trial; and developing metrics of success. The
infrastructure and research capacity to create and build, for the first time, a
functioning Cooperative Group around a specific scientific area (Palliative and
End of Life care research) was accomplished during the first three years of
this endeavor through a UC4 cooperative Agreement.
APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
