The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) plans to issue a Request for Applications (RFA) using the Program Project (P01) mechanism in the early summer of 2007, with review expected in February-March 2008 and funding expected in July-August 2008. The purpose of this P01 RFA is to solicit applications aimed at advancing collaborative nursing science and multidisciplinary intervention research in chronic illness. The funding opportunity will support the development, assessment, and translation of interventions to improve the quality of life and/or promote health/prevent disease in persons living with chronic illness and in their informal caregivers. It will also provide support for development of relevant methodology and shared resources. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate prior work in their chosen focus area and the ability to successfully execute a large research study.

This program underscores the commitment of NINR to interdisciplinary research that incorporates biobehavioral knowledge to maintain and promote health and prevent complications in persons of all ages with chronic conditions and their informal caregivers.
